Ben Garrod – Secrets of Bones
On Wednesday 19th February our first speaker at PubSci’s new venue will be primatologist, bonegeek and TV presenter Ben Garrod.
Ben’s passion for bones has allowed him to make a name for himself as a skilled articulator of skeletons for universities and museums (for a glimpse at this side of his work see the video).
His current academic research is focussed on the rate of evolutionary adaptation of primates introduced to islands, in an attempt to understand how populations respond to environmental change.
Ben will also give us a glimpse into his research and talk about how he ended up getting his own BBC TV series Secrets Of Bones, the first episode of which will be broadcast on Tuesday 18th February, the day before PubSci.
The talk will take place in our new venue, the upstairs room of the Old King’s Head pub, which will be open before 6:30pm for the 7pm start, giving people a chance to have a chat and some food (the kitchen will be open until around 9pm).
As usual the event will be free, but we will have a whip-round to help cover Ben’s travel from Bristol and any additional expenses.
The Old King’s Head is just a few yards from the London Bridge Borough Road exit from the Underground and a couple of minutes walk from London Bridge rail station. We hope to see you there!
